The parade sponsored by the Alliance Center for Independence with the support of the statewide disability community is an attempt to increase inclusion and acceptance of individuals with disabilities in their communities and the broader society. Organizers hope this parade will be a vehicle to break stereotypes and the harmful public perceptions of people with disabilities. The parade is a way to promote the belief that disability is a natural and beautiful part of human diversity in which people living with disabilities can take pride.
Founded in 1986, the Alliance Center for Independence, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) and one of 13 Centers for Independent Living across the state. The Alliance is the designated Center for Independent Living for Middlesex, Union and Somerset Counties in New Jersey. The Alliance’s goal is to promote the rights of persons with disabilities to full participation in the community.
