What elections are taking place in NJ this year?

NJ Governor Richard J. Hughes (1962–1970)

Gubernatorial Race
Voters will go to the polls and select the state's 57th governor. Governor Phil Murphy is no longer eligible to run because of the two-term limit law.

NJ State Legislature

NJ State General Assembly
Voters will go to the polls and elect all 80 members of the state General Assembly. The General Assembly is 1/2 of the state legislature (the other 1/2 is the State Senate). The Assembly, along with the Senate, make laws for the state.


 

Who Can Vote?

A person who meets the requirements has the legal right to vote.

  • Is at least 18 years old

  • Is a citizen of the United States

Also…

  • Must live in the state and town where you want to vote

  • Not in jail (those on parole and probation can now register to vote)

  • Has registered to vote 21 days before the election

 

Why Vote?

  • Allows every citizen a say as to who should run our country, our state, our county, our town

  • Allows every citizen to decide on important issues, such school budgets, putting money aside for the environment or amending the state or federal constitutions or other public questions

  • Voting gives you influence and a voice. When you vote, you have power

If you have a disability, you have a right to vote. If you are not your own guardian, you have a right to vote.

By casting your vote, you are exercising your right and responsibility as an American citizen.


 

Not registered or never voted before?

Find out how you can register to vote in NJ by visiting the NJ Division of Elections website. You must register 21 days before the election.

Once you are registered there are 3 ways to vote.

  1. Vote by mail ballot

  2. In-person early voting

  3. At your polling place on election day

Important Dates

Primary Election Day
Tuesday, June 10, 2025 (must register by May 20th)

General Election Day
Tuesday, November 4, 2025 (must register by October 14th)

The NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities surveyed all 11 candidates regarding disability issues. The 9 question survey was answered by 6 of the candidates (as of May 8, 2025).
