The Alliance Center for Independence would like to thank the New Jersey State Legislature for restoring $3 million dollars in funding for NJ's 12 Centers for Independent Living. The restoration of funding allows ACI and our sister CILs to continue the work of empowering people with disabilities through advocacy, peer support, independent living skills and transition services as well as other vital services.
Under the budget proposal submitted by Governor Murphy in January, funding for CILs would be cut to $0.
We are grateful to our lawmakers, especially Assemblywoman Carol Murphy and Senator Vin Gopal, who introduced resolutions in the Assembly and state Senate, respectively, to restore funding. We appreciate their recognition of the important role we provide to the disability community.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who wrote and called our legislators, showed up at meetings and at our No Cuts to CILs Rally in May, and did all the advocacy work that made this happen!
