Presentation on Social Security Work Incentives

ACI recently hosted a workshop on Social Security Work Incentives. 20 attendees heard Elisa Cohen of the NJ Work Incentive Network Support (NJWINS), discuss how those receiving SSI and SSDI can get back to or start paid work through incentive set up by the Social Security Administration. NJWINS is a program of the Family Resource Network. Thank you Elisa for the informative presentation!

Write On! Creative Writing Workshop

On May 22nd, friends of ACI gathered at the PeopleCare Center for Nonprofits in Bridgewater to share their creative writing endeavors. Poets, Short Story writers, Essayists, Novelists, and novice writers spent the evening sharing and giving feedback on their work. Participants took part in prompt writing exercises to practice spontaneous writing. Discussions spanned from writing styles, reasons people write, important writing topics, and issues related to sharing your work with the public. Thank you to all that attended for making it a fantastic evening and big thank you to PeopleCare Center for Nonprofits for opening your doors to our group!

Holocaust Survivor Recounts Survival Story at ACI

Recently, ACI hosted a workshop on the Holocaust & People with Disabilities. Guest speaker was Sol Spierer, a Holocaust survivor from Poland, who was imprisoned in a work camp in Siberia, USSR. His remarkable story of survival was inspiring. Moderating the workshop was Susan Rosenthal, a volunteer with the Holocaust Council/Jewish Federation of Greater Metrowest NJ. Thank you both for the important and emotional presentation. The workshop was founded by a grant from the NJ Council for the Humanities.

Middlesex County Health Department Trains ACI on Radiation Emergencies

Thank you John and Elaine from the Middlesex County Health Department for the informative 2 hour training on the fundamentals of radiation as well as the Community Reception Center. Training for participants will take part in a community center simulation on Tuesday, April 25th. If you're interested in participating, please contact Carole Tonks at ctonks@adacil.org.

Participants in our Vision Board class recently completed the 4th and final session. Our Create Your Own Vision Board series shows how you can turn your goals into pictures and make your dreams come true! The class was facilitated by Eulanda Brooks, ACI Independent Living Specialist. Workshops on Basic Computer Skills

Earlier this week, 5 individuals completed a 2-day Basic Computer Skills workshop taught by software engineer and computer instructor, AnnMarie Pigna-Torres, at ACI. The classes covered Microsoft Word and Excel, email, cloud storage, and using the internet. Each participant received a certificate upon completion. Thank you AnnMarie!

This class was offered as part of ACI's office skills program.

Workshop on Setting Goals for 2017 with Paper Snowflakes!

On January 25th, ACI came together to celebrate the New Year! Participants enjoyed hot chocolate and took part in a New Year’s renewal arts and crafts activity. They created and decorated paper snowflakes to express the parts of their lives that they wanted to continue to foster in the coming year, as well as releasing beliefs about themselves that they no longer wanted. The ACI family spent the night enjoying each others company talking about their dreams for 2017. Have a wonderful year!
