ACI has teamed up with Snowcrew!

The Alliance Center for Independence (ACI) has teamed up with Snowcrew to help get the word out about this important service operating throughout the east coast. 

Snowcrew, a volunteer community initiative that matches neighbors who are elderly or disabled with nearby neighbors who can and want to shovel them out after snow storms. Learn more: bit.ly/1f1Qzru

Those who are elderly or disabled can submit a Shovel Request via the SeeClickFix widget (an online case management and mapping tool) at neighborsforneighbors.org/page/snowcrew. Scroll down and follow the instructions under the map. 

Those who wish to help dig out their elderly or disabled neighbors can sign up to be notified via email or text message at neighborsforneighbors.org/page/snowcrew. Click "Sign up to help."

Proposed Funding Increase for Independent Living

A message from the National Council on Independent Living

The 2014 Omnibus Appropriations bill currently before Congress includes funding increases for Independent Living programs. If passed, the bill will increase total funding for Independent Living programs 3.34%, from a Fiscal Year 2013 total of $130 million to a new Fiscal Year 2014 total of nearly $135 million.

Winter Coat Drive

WANTED: Clean and gently used winter coats (Men, Women and Children in all sizes) as well as new blankets and sleeping bags to benefit those in need in the Edison, NJ area.

We appreciate your anticipated contribution to help ensure that we meet the needs for warm winter coats during this difficult time.

It's All About Work - Edison High School

In November, ACI began working with students at Edison High School on Tier 1 of the It's All About Work program. It's All About Work is a program developed by the NJ Association of Centers for Independent Living in conjunction with the NJ Division on Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS) to help prepare transition students and adults for the world of work and inclusive community living.
