This workshop was geared towards parents of transition age children. Edison, NJ - The Alliance Center for Independence (ACI) will hold an open house at its office in Edison on the evening of Thursday January 11th 2018. Time 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. ACI invites the community to attend and learn about its programs and services and how they benefit people with disabilities.
This free event, entitled “Making Spirits Bright,” will feature a power point presentation on the agency’s activities and services, a tour of its expanded facility and dinner. ACI will also recognize and honor some of its supporters who have contributed to its success over the past several years.
ACI Holiday Toy Drive 2017
ACI received 120 toys for our annual holiday toy drive! 19 families and 60 individuals were provided with toys for the holidays. Thank you to Guaranteed Rate Mortgage, Joy's Dance House, Freehold Buick GMC and the many individuals who helped donate to the toy drive! Thanks also goes out to ACI staff and volunteers for wrapping all of the gifts!
Holiday Luncheon & Shopping Trip 2017
On December 16th, ACI friends and family enjoyed the annual Holiday Luncheon and Shopping Trip to Woodbridge Center Mall. During a great meal at Applebee’s, attendees spent time talking and catching up with each other. When everyone was finished with lunch the group spent some time in the mall looking for gifts for their friends and family. Special thanks to Bobby Sutton for donating to our toy drive. DDD SUPPORTS PROGRAM - DIRECT SUPPORT PERSON
The Alliance Center for Independence (ACI) is a Center for Independent Living and a DDD Approved Fee-For- Service agency in Edison, NJ. ACI provides Support Services in Middlesex, Union and Somerset counties. We are currently seeking a Direct Support person for consumers in Middlesex County who is enthusiastic about assisting people with Developmental Disabilities/Intellectual Disabilities in being independent and reaching their goals. The hours will be part time initially, with the potential to work full time.
Gotham Shield Exercise on Radiation Emergencies
ACI is proud to be part of the Gotham Shield Community Reception Center radiation disaster exercise conducted by the Middlesex County Department of Health, ACI as well as other state, county and local officials held on November 14th. Gotham Shield is a FEMA led exercise to evaluate how the community prevents, protects and recovers from the effects of an Improvised Nuclear Device event. The exercise took place in Edison and was geared towards people with access and functional needs. Approximately 50 attended this day long event. A discussion was held afterwards on ways to assist each other in the event of a disaster.
ACI Salutes Our Veterans!
ACI was honored to host Roland Pierson, a decorated Marine Corps combat veteran during the Vietnam War. Roland, who served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 and was wounded, give a presentation on his experiences during and after the War. Roland's personal accounts were humorous and heartfelt. Thank you to Roland and all the veterans for your service!
