Reaching out to all writers! Do you write poetry, short stories, or one act plays? Come share your work. Spend the night with other creative people and see how we can improve each other’s writing. Please bring excerpts from famous writers that you admire, we will be using them in a creative writing exercise. If you have a piece that you have worked on since Part 1 and you want to share your progress, that would be great!

Plays in the Park is proud to present EVITA live on stage!

Join ACI at Roosevelt Park for EVITA! This Tony Award winner for best musical is about a passionate woman who went from the streets of Argentina, to show business stardom, to the highest levels of influence in Buenos Aires. At once both a saint and a villain, Eva Peron’s dramatic, meteoric rise from poverty to prosperity is groundbreaking and heartbreaking. This show includes timeless songs such as: Buenos Aires, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, The Money Kept Rolling In, and A New Argentina.

Arrive no later than 7:30 PM.

The Printmaking Center of New Jersey is offering the Traveling Roving Press Program to ACI consumers. Monotyping is a unique process in which one uses a painterly approach to printmaking, developing images on a Plexiglass plate using water based printer’s inks of various colors using brayers, brushes, & other drawing & painting implements. Textures & stencils are used to further develop these images, then transferred from plate to paper using a portable printing press, where you can take home a sample of this beautiful art detail! This fun process is a unique fine art print with immediate results!

Come join us on a fully accessible tour of the Newark Museum, the largest museum in NJ, on Saturday, August 1st. ACI has worked successfully with the Newark Museum in ensuring that all of its exhibits and collections are accessible to people with disabilities. Presented by ACI's Social Rec program, the tour, provided free to ACI members, will highlight its vast exhibits and art galleries.

Some of the featured exhibits include:

  • Royals & Regalia: Inside The Palaces of Nigeria's Monarchs
  • My Rock Stars
  • The Sheridan Theater Experience, Rise of The City, circa 1937
  • "Reach for the Stars" @The Alice and Leonard Dreyfuss Planetarium, an interactive theater for learning about astronomy, space and planetary science.  Audiences can explore the constellations, travel through the Solar System, visit distant galaxies and soar to the edge of the Universe.
  • Jewelry Discovery Day: Buried Treasure
  • Visit The Newark Museum Garden, School House & Fire House
  • Various art galleries
  • The Ballantine House - featuring the massive mansion-like home of Newark's 1st beer-brewing family of 1885, which is built in the image of what homes were like in the 1650's.

From 12:00 to 1:15 PM, we will be going on a museum expert/docent-guided tour; followed by a self-guided tour from 1:15 pm to 3:30 pm. There will also be various museum gift shops, as well as a museum cafe.
